Good evening!

I hope that your evening is going very well. Mine sure is. I attended the Boca Raton critique group meeting and I must say it was quite good. It was well attended and several people read their work. I myself did not get a chance to read, but that is okay as I learn something new every time I go. I hope to be at the Wellington critique group meeting in two weeks time. I hope to get a chance to read then.

I downloaded an Iphone/IPad screenwriting/index card app called Story Skeleton. Now even though it is meant for screenwriters, it can also help novelists to organize their thoughts and ideas into a index card/story board. You may want to check it out.

This week I have been using the above app to help organize my thoughts, scene notes and ideas regarding my Sci-fi novel, “A change in Time”. So far it is working rather nicely as I can switch from one app to another on my Ipad. Now it is a matter of writing the ideas out.

I will be submitting to Necon E-books 100 word contest this month. The theme for this month is to turn something mundane into a horror story. I know all about that as a few mundane happenings in my life turned into horror stories! He he.

Like I mentioned in my last post, as soon as I find out, I will be submitting to round ten of Three Minute Fiction. They have hinted that the round will start shortly. So I’m ready for that! It should be a fun as well.

Along with those other submissions, I will keep on writing poetry and some short stories as well. Basically I’m going to keep myself busy at the computer, Ipad, Iphone and what not. I like being busy. It keeps me sane.

And speaking of keeping myself sane, I had better go off and do some more writing. So until next time…William out!

Good evening people!

I hope that your day was a joyous one. Mine certainly was! I spent the past two days changing character profiles. I think I have mentioned this before. I changed my protagonists name from Tony Jacobs to Ward Jacobs. I think the new moniker is a better fit to the story than the old one. Now Mr. Jacobs hemmed and hawed about the change, but in the end he relented. Especially when I told him he had no choice in the matter. Besides his girlfriend Amy loves the name change. she says it’s more sexy. In any case it’s all good. Now Ward is all excited!

I am going to finish making the changes tonight and then do some writing and brainstorming. I also promised myself that I would create three new poems tonight and look at any upcoming writing contests that I may enter again. I checked out the Three Minute Fiction site and it looks like round 10 will be starting shortly. I will be definitely looking forward to that. Plus I would like to try my hand at writing some short fiction as well.

I have to admit to you guys that I am still trying to find the best way to put a novel together. It’s hard to say the least but it is very enjoyable. I not only keep a journal here about what I do, but I also keep hand written notes detailing where I’m at. This way I can keep things organized and not forget to tie up loose subplots and threads. Otherwise I would go bananas. And you guys would not want me to go bananas right? Sure you do!

So I’m trying the outline thing. What do you guys think about outlining? I think it is a good way to go. I am still being creative, but organized at the same time. You guys should see all the little paper notebooks, computers, IPads and what not just for the sole purpose of getting this project together. I’m glad that I have these tools though I wish that someone out there would come up with a better novel writing program for the IPad. Something like a ywriter app would be nice. An app that could organize everything from your character profiles to the numbered chapters of your book. That would be nice. If any of you guys see one let me know I would sure appreciate it!

I came up with some nice love poems yesterday and I said “Damn I got to write that down!”. And so I did. Now speaking of writing… I’m going to go for now so until next week. (Or who knows maybe earlier!)…William out!

Early Friday evening thoughts…

Just wanted to send a shout out to my friend and fellow local writer Lisa Combs, thanking her for the nice comment. Yes I did miss all of my friends at the Wellington, Fla critique group meeting. I heard that there were some new faces there reading and that everyone had a wonderful time. I mentioned to Lisa that I will attempt to make the Boca meeting in two weeks depending on work and medical issues.

I must say that the talent at both critique group meetings are quite good and I love to listen in and help other writers with their writing when I get the chance to do so. I’m very blessed to be associated with such a group of writers. It does make me proud.

Yesterday I did some character profiles and made the aforementioned changes to my protagonist Tony Jacobs. His new name is now Ward Jacobs. He is tough 35 year old who had happens to be a pretty damn good Physicist. He has to be tough because it’s his job to save mankind.

Now today I’m going to do a balance of character profiles, brainstorming and then writing down what the hell I brainstormed! As Captain Kirk would say, “Sounds like fun!” Well it is fun! I wouldn’t be doing this if it weren’t fun.

Been checking out “The Perfect Write” newsletter from Robert Bacon. It is in my opinion something that most if not every writer should read regarding the industry of writing. The link is here. I think that you guys will find that the information on Mr. Bacon’s web site to be quite useful.

So my goals for tonight were to post here and then get on with my character profiling and writing. And that is what I intend to do! So until next time… William out!

Happy New Year…

to all of my writer friends and readers out there! I hope that the New Year will bring a lot of happiness to everyone. Today I checked the Three Minute Fiction page to see when Round 10 will start and the Necon Ebooks page for any new contests. So far that is a negative. I will be ready in any case. Just say the word!

Still plugging away at my Sci-fi story “A Change in Time”. I changed the lead character’s name from Tony Jacobs to Ward Jacobs. I think that the latter name sounds a bit better. To me it has a certain ring to it.

Like I mentioned before I will try to keep up a once a week posting to this blog here. It helps me to keep focused on what I’\m doing regarding my writing. And to that point my goals for tonight are continue to brainstorm, make more changes to the characters, do some outlining if ideas and to try to follow Karen Weisner’s 30 day method of novel writing.

I tried that before but found it difficult to do. This time I will try harder. Since I have had some health issues before, I find myself more dedicated than ever to get this project done along with others. Who knows what tomorrow may bring? Hopefully good things but you never know. One thing is for sure I never thought I would have gotten cancer but I did. It sure does change your outlook on life in general.

But enough about me…It is time I get back to my writing….So until next time William out!
