when I put my thoughts down on any sort of media. At least that is how I feel when I write. I feel that I am doing a better thing when I write. I looked at my posts and most of them started with “Good Evening” so I thought I would change things up a bit. It just looked the same to me so I thought I would something different like pick a famous passage and do something with it. Anyway I had a little fun with the title of this post.
Lust to update you on my father. He is progressing nicely in rehab. We took him to the doctor this week, and the doctor said he can put some weight on his leg now. No more than fifty pound of pressure to be sure, but at least it is progress. I just thank the Good Lord that he is still around. Like I said in earlier posts, most people at his age, (91 going on 92), die from such a fall..
I have been studying Microsoft Office 2013 all this week. I want to upgrade my skill set regarding Word, Excel, Power Point etc. But I really want to focus on Word. The main reason is to get to know the software thoroughly so I can customize the software for Kindle conversion. Plus it still upgrades my sill set and gives me a challenge. And speaking of challenges, I need to get back and achieve tonight’s writing goals. So until next time…William out!
I hope that everyone is doing well. And speaking about that, I am happy to say that my dad is doing better. Last week I told you guys that he fell at home and busted his hip. He under went a partial hip replacement, which was successful. So now he is in the Wellington rehab center, which from the looks of it, is a fine facility. In any case the rehab is tough for a person who us 91 going on 92. Right now I feel very fortunate that he is still around. Most people his age die from an accident like his. Like I said before, I a lucky he is still around.
I bought and downloaded Microsoft Office 2013. After going the hassle, and hassle is not the word for it, of setting up my Microsoft account again, I had an old hotmail account they couldn’t find, I finally got it installed. Whoopee! Now the reason I got this is twofold. 1. I need to learn how to format documents from Word to the kindle format. I have some books on that subject that should help me on that.
2. I want to become skilled regarding the Office suite so that I have a marketable skill in case in the future I need to get another job. Now I am not saying that I will change jobs soon, but it would be nice if I had the skills and the knowledge set just in case. Like I said before I am learning how to customize Word so that I can upload documents to Kindle Direct Publishing with as few formatting problems as possible.
I have been working on the “How to” book. I have been organizing the first draft outline of the book, and writing the first chapter. I am getting ready to write the introduction as well. I have a fair amount of work to do on that project. Now my sci-fi project is still on the back burner. I am letting ideas cook inside my head on that one. In fact as I was writing examples down of “the inciting incident” in my “how to” book, I thought that the inciting incident in my sci-fi novel could be improved. We shall see…
Well that’ about it there folks! I hope that your weekend will be a good one! So until next time…William out!
I hope that your evening is going well. I hope that some of you guys have been staying warm. It has cooled down in South Florida recently.
It has been a trying couple of days recently for myself and my family. You see my father who is 92 years old, fell yesterday and damaged his hip. Today he had surgery done and came through it very well. The hip was not as damaged as we originally thought. Thank the Good Lord for that. So he had a partial hip replacement done. Now he will stay at the hospital for three more days and then go to the rehab center in Wellington, Florida. He will spend ten days there and then go home. All in all it could have been a lot worse. Me and my family thank the Good Lord it wasn’t and pray to him to keep my father safe and sound.
And despite all this I was able to do some writing on the “How To” book. I did some story boarding with an index card app on the iPad. That took about a couple of hours. I try to do a minimum of eight hours a week writing. I feel like I accomplished something when I achieve that goal. I will keep on pushing to achieve the goal of getting the first draft of the “How to” book done soon.
Now getting back to what I was talking about before. I feel I need to say this. Do not take your loved ones for granted. Love them with all your heart each and every single day. For you do not know when the day will come, that they will be taken away from you. So cherish them each and everyday as I cherish my father.
Well it is time for me to go…So until next time…William out!
I will start this writing session with a post to the blog here. First off I hope that everyone is having a wonderful evening. After a long day of immunotherapy, I’m enjoying the evening as well. I tried to write after I was infused with Benadryl, but couldn’t. I was just to happy and relaxed to write. But now I find myself in front of my iPad, which is screaming to me…Write! Write! Write you bastard!
And so here I am, sitting in my study, in front of my iPad, with hands at the ready, and a mind reaching into the depths of imagination, conjuring whatever idea, good, bad, ugly or just plain horrific . (After all I do dabble in writing horror stories.) it has been a fun session and once this post is done I will get right back to it.
Like I said in the last post I have been working on several projects. My sci-fi story for one. A Children’s story for another. And certainly last but nut in no way the least is the how to book. Throw in my work on the poetry chapbook and I’m a busy man. Well not so busy today due to the immunotherapy. But I do plan on doing some work after I am done here. I will do some research on the Writer’s Market as well.
I have been doing some reading about Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) and Create Space as well. The more I learn about this industry, the better off I will be. That would be true for any writer. And speaking of which, I had better start to get cracking before fatigue starts to set in. (It’s been a real long day for me folks as I got up at 6:45 am to get ready to go to immunotherapy.) So until next time..William out!
I hope that you guys had a wonderful and safe New Years celebration. And I hope that you guys are enduring the horrible winter weather up in the northern part of the USA and Canada. My thoughts go out to you guys who are surviving the cold and the snow. My friend and critique group leader Caryn reported on Facebook, on how bad the weather is in Maryland. I hope that she will be able to get back home to sunny South Florida safe and soon.
Speaking of my critique group, I was not able to attend my critique group meeting in Wellington Florida. This being due to the fact that I’m still not driving. But I’m working on that, as today I did some practice driving around the local area. My vision has improved in the left eye to the point of my being legal to drive. At least it is much better than the right, which is legally blind. So it comes down to the point where I’m learning to trust and adapt to the vision in the left eye. Which also has some blind spot as well. At least I can still write, and that is a huge blessing from the Good Lord. Thank you Jesus!
Speaking of writing my goals for tonight are pretty simple.
1. Post here on the blog.
2. Work on the “How To” book.
3. If I come up with more storyline ideas for the sci-fi novel then jot and incorporate them into the story.
4. Write some poetry for the poetry chapbook.
5. Come up with some children story ideas for the Cheerios Spoonful of Stories contest.
6. Learn more about Kindle direct publishing and Create Space.
7. Do some research WritersMarket.com.
Now come to think about it, I have enough goals for the week much less one night. So I think I have it pretty well covered. So I better get to work on it! So until next time… William out!
It is New Years Eve and I hope that everyone is having a wonderful, and safe time of it. Please be careful not to drink and drive, and if you see a friend who may be a bit tipsie, please look out for them and make sure they have a ride home. Cab fare is sure a lot less expensive than than getting arrested for DUI or worse.
New Years is a couple of hours away, and like many, I will be watching that ball drop in Times Square. Now like I said in the previous post I will attempt to achieve the writing goals that I have set out for myself. Namely getting that first draft done and attending my critique group meetings.
It is really import that I get that feedback from my fellow writers, so I can keep on improving as a writer. I am blessed to be associated with such a group of talented writers. The next Wellington group meeting will be held on January, 2nd 2014. I will try my best to be there.
Well this is my last post of 2013. It has been great writing to you guys this year. So one last time for this year. So until next time…William out!
