I am sorry I’ve not written in a while. The reason being is I could not find the original app I was using to write my story Well no more! I found that app and I am writing again! Of course all the stuff I did before, is gone. But I don’t care. In writing the writer does throw out a lot of stuff and I’m no different. The important thing I’d I’m writing again. Woohoo!
My family was good enough to get mr a kingle HD Fire for Christmas and I have been using ever since for entertainment and educational purposes. The Author Willian Bernhardt gas several good books of which Idownloaded 2 of them. They are…creating Character, Bringing Your Dtory To Kife and Perfecting Plot, Charting Thr Hero’s Journey.
Both are really good books and I highly recommend them. You can download them yo your Kingle from Amazon. I also gotKee Chikd’s “killing Floor” from Amazon. That book is really good too! Lee Child is a very good Author.
So now that I am back in yje hunt again, I have doing character detail sheets, first draft outlinrs, story premises and work on my “how to” book. It feels great to be back in the saddle again.
I am not sure if the Cheerios Spoonful of Stories is going to be done this year. I hope it will be. It is fun to do and a great opportunity for an un published writer. I will check out Necon Ebooks tonight to see what is going on there. I will be looking up othrt things as well. So until next time…William out!
I hope the Ganesh is Goimg to br close. I have no favorites as thr Dolphins are not in it. I have been reading William Bernhardt’d book”Creating Character: Bringing Your Story to Life.”
I finally found a good definition of the Inciting Incidemt. Which is it is an event that completely turns the protagonist’s life completely upside down and sets him or her off on his or her quest to achieve the story goal.
Mr. Bernhardt’d book is quire good. I recommend it! Now on to the game! So until next time…William out!
I hope that your Wednesday morning will be a good one! I have been re-working my sci-fi story “A Change in Time’ for the past few days. It seems like I have been doing this for a long time. But it needs to be done. I have been even toying around with a title change too (A Moment in Time). What do you guys think? Please leave a comment or a suggestion below on the comments link.
I have been listening to Garth Brooks song “If TomorrowNever Comes”. One hell of an emotional song. I highly recommend it if you have a loved one so you can listen to it together and hopefully you can appreciate each other better because of the experience. I have been inspired to write some poetry because of it. It is one hell of a song.
I have also been working on a “how to” book. I know that there are a lot of writers that are just starting out, and just like me, didn’t have a clue about how to go about writing the story. Well this project is going to tell about how to write character, setting sketches and the eight plot points of a three act story. I figure it this way. If I get stuck while writing the sci-fi story, then I could go to the how to project and do some writing there.
And if that doesn’t work out , then maybe I can write some poetry for the poetry chapbook that I may some day publish, or I can certainly post here at WordPress just to let you guys know how I’m doing. Speaking of which I really appreciate you guys reading my drivel. It simply makes me feel like I accomplished something when I post here.
Well enough of my blathering for right now I have to get back to my projects. So until next time…William out!
I hope that your evening is going well. Life can sure be challenging. I went to have an MRI done on my head yesterday. (The things I will do to try and get inspiration!) I won’t know the results of the test for the next few days. But I’m not sweating it since the past tests have come out negative. Anyway life does have it’s challenges and I’m up to the challenge.
Now on to my topic…I have been working on my sci-fi story “A Change in Time” these past few days. I had to make some changes. I had to rewrite some scenes to better fit the story structure. The way the text read, I had the inciting incident in the wrong spot. Now I had things ass backwards before, but this is a little bit ridiculous. So I made some changes there. Hey what is writing without making changes?
Now some of the other things I have been doing are writing poetry for my chapbook, and checking the Writer’s Market.com for upcoming things. I would like to compete in some writing contests there. And of course check at least once a week for story submissions to various different magazines. In any case I will try to stay busy that way. Maybe I can try to submit to some children’s magazines as well.
Now then maybe I can ask you guys something. Below is my version of a Character sketch. I would like to have some input about improving it.
Race/Ethnic Background (Race could be human or alien):
Hair color/Eye color:
Psychological make up; (This will include personality strengths and weaknesses.)
In any case I’m sure there could be more added. I tried to keep things fairly general. Take for example, Family background. A lot of intricate details could be put there. Same thing for the psychological make up. A lot of things can be done. And speaking of done, so am I So until next time…William out!
I hope that your day was a joyous one. Mine certainly was! I spent the past two days changing character profiles. I think I have mentioned this before. I changed my protagonists name from Tony Jacobs to Ward Jacobs. I think the new moniker is a better fit to the story than the old one. Now Mr. Jacobs hemmed and hawed about the change, but in the end he relented. Especially when I told him he had no choice in the matter. Besides his girlfriend Amy loves the name change. she says it’s more sexy. In any case it’s all good. Now Ward is all excited!
I am going to finish making the changes tonight and then do some writing and brainstorming. I also promised myself that I would create three new poems tonight and look at any upcoming writing contests that I may enter again. I checked out the Three Minute Fiction site and it looks like round 10 will be starting shortly. I will be definitely looking forward to that. Plus I would like to try my hand at writing some short fiction as well.
I have to admit to you guys that I am still trying to find the best way to put a novel together. It’s hard to say the least but it is very enjoyable. I not only keep a journal here about what I do, but I also keep hand written notes detailing where I’m at. This way I can keep things organized and not forget to tie up loose subplots and threads. Otherwise I would go bananas. And you guys would not want me to go bananas right? Sure you do!
So I’m trying the outline thing. What do you guys think about outlining? I think it is a good way to go. I am still being creative, but organized at the same time. You guys should see all the little paper notebooks, computers, IPads and what not just for the sole purpose of getting this project together. I’m glad that I have these tools though I wish that someone out there would come up with a better novel writing program for the IPad. Something like a ywriter app would be nice. An app that could organize everything from your character profiles to the numbered chapters of your book. That would be nice. If any of you guys see one let me know I would sure appreciate it!
I came up with some nice love poems yesterday and I said “Damn I got to write that down!”. And so I did. Now speaking of writing… I’m going to go for now so until next week. (Or who knows maybe earlier!)…William out!
Hello fellow writers! I hope that you guys are having a wonderful evening. I know I am! I normally do not put this in my posts but there was a bit of bad news in the acting world today. Ernest Borgnine. a favorite character actor of mine, passed away today. He was 95 years old. I put this in because he gave life to so many characters in his long career. He was a writers dream when it came to that. Ernest Borgnine was 95 years young. He will be sorely missed.
Now to get on to other things. I missed the last critique group meeting in Wellington Florida, but I will not miss the next one in Boca Raton. Now I say that knowing that there is always that chance that something unforseen may happen that might change my plans, but for right now I plan on attending. So I shall see what’s up about that soon.
I have been busy brainstorming ideas for the sci fi story that I have been writing. So far so good on that front. I do like the storyboarding part of writing. I think it is very much fun. I also think it is very much on the creative side of things too. I am learning that I like to plan out the story a bit and then write out what I planned. Funny thing is though, things don’t always go as they are planned. I would be right in the middle of writing a scene, then ooops, I get a better idea and then it is back to the drawing board again.
Ahhh such is the life of a writer! Just when you think you know all the answers, the questions get changed. In that particular case one has to adapt…to be able to follow that yellow brick road to it’s mystifying end. Which brings me about to this thought. When one starts to write to their story, one is never sure where that story will end.
I have an idea circulating around my mind regarding my protagonist. You know how the protagonist must undergo a major change in order not only for the story to go on, but to make the character look and feel more real . Well I have a real surprise for him. And he is going to have to make a decision, the resolution thereof will literally tear him apart. It is going to be fun writing that scene! I say that because I do have a dark side that I access when I through stumbling blocks in my characters way. The fun part is trying to figure out a way that my character can solve each problem in a realistic way.
So for right now I am going to have to bid you guys farewell. I have to get cracking about my writing. So until next time… William out!
went very well today. Although I did not read today, I heard a lot of good stories and information at the meeting. Not reading isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Listening is equally important at these functions. In fact I learn a lot more about writing when I listen to other people’s work. Isn’t that the most important thing is learning? I think so.
So with that in mind we listened to Caryn’s speech about characterization and the importance of developing character profiles before writing your story. In that lecture she emphasized that you must get to know your character intimately before you start your writing. Now I must admit I have gotten away from that these past few months and now I realize I must get back to doing that again. Before I write I must know as much as possible about that character. Questions need to be asked about the character.
Is the character male or female, young or old, or for that matter even human. Is the character in picture perfect health both mentally, physically or both or is the opposite true? Does the character have flaws both phsyically and mentally? How tall is the character, or fat, or thin or whatever? What clothes, shoes or anything else does the character wear? Is the latest most expensive off the rack, or does the character go to the dollar thrift store to buy clothes? Does the character have a boyfriend, girlfriend (or in an alien’s case) an it friend? Is the character straight or gay/lesbian?
What are the character’s personality traits? What’s the character’s background? Did the character go to school, play sports, get good grades? Was the character popular in school? Did the character have a boyfriend or girlfriend in high school? Was the character popular in high school? If not then why? Did the character get in trouble in school? And if so then why? Did the character have a tramautic event occur early in life or not? A traumatic event early in one’s life can have a tremendous affect on the character and how he, she or it perceives life.
Is the character religous? Does the character go to church? Does the character belong to any religous organizations If not, why not? What is the relationship status between the character and his, her or it’s parents and siblings if any? Is it good bad or indifferent? You and I as writers would need to know. In any case this is pretty much what I got from my critque group meeting today. It was really quite good and I looking forward to going to the next meeting in western Boca Raton in two weeks.
Now in 9 days Three Minute Fiction will start and I will ceratinly be using my next critique meeting to help me tighten my writing up for submission to that contest. I will let you guys know how that turns out! I am still pluggin away at my sci fi story, and I do have a goal of at least the first 5 pages written out before I go to that next critque group meeting. I will also be submitting poetry to Necone E- Books as well so I am going to be busy these next two weeks. So I had better get cracking then! So until next time… William out!
